What gets in the way? Being busy, focussing on the stuff to be done. Often we hire people for their skills. We lament if only we could find people with the right attitude. Yet we continue to focus on skills to do stuff. We have forgotten a critical element. It’s all about people…first!
We might have worked out the company purpose and values then we say to people you have to align to these and live them. Here is your job description just do that. Here’s the box you need to fit in, squeeze yourself into this box. By the way we expect you to be an all-rounder too.
Here’s the problem. It’s does not bring out the best that any person has to offer. It kills off spirit, it dulls down intelligent thought and contribution. It hollows out culture and turns your people into mindless uninspired drones. Do you really want to build a great team?
A great team can totally transform any business with a half decent business model. It starts with actually seeing the individual. Discovering who they are and what truly drives them. It’s about discovering their native genius and the value they bring and how they fit into delivering the value of your business.
Recognise who your team really are and tap into their intelligence, coach and grow your people actively and consistently. Put the right people around them, be clear about what you want them to achieve, provide the structure and resources needed, then remove roadblocks and get out of their way.
