How much of what you do is a ’should’? “I should join the gym, I should save money, I should get started on my BAS”. Anytime you find yourself procrastinating or making excuses – “I don’t have time, I can’t afford it” – you’re operating from a ‘should’. In other words it’s something that someone else wants you to do. When the motivation genuinely comes from within, you will magically find the time, the energy or the money.
This is the difference between living according to social idealisms, or social values, and our own personal highest values. When we tap into our personal values, we discover a powerful compass for our lives. And when we can align our personal values with the work we do, our productivity lifts and our results can go through the roof.
Imagine the impact of having whole teams of people who are genuinely inspired to do the work they do. It would be transformative!
